Program Notes

9 aphorisms was written for the Louisville-based The Trio. An aphorism is a short, pithy saying, sometimes witty, sometimes serious. Originally I had thought I would pair specific aphorisms with the movements of this piece, but eventually I dropped that idea, and just wrote short pieces that I thought were the musical equivalent of verbal aphorisms.
